Android app development

Android app development for phones and tablets, from London

We offer Android app development from first design to Google Play release: native apps in Kotlin and Jetpack Compose that work well across the wide range of Android devices. The same team builds the backend, accounts and payments behind them, and looks after the app once it is live.

What we build

Native apps for Android.

We build with Google’s own tools, so your app follows Android’s conventions and keeps up with new versions of the platform.

Android phone apps

Native apps with sign-in, notifications and offline use where the app needs them, tested on a range of screen sizes.

Tech used: Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, Room, Firebase Cloud Messaging

Tablets and foldables

Layouts that adapt to larger and folding screens instead of stretching the phone design.

Tech used: Kotlin, Jetpack Compose

Subscriptions and in-app purchases

Free trials, subscriptions and one-off purchases through Google Play, connected to your own accounts.

Tech used: Google Play Billing, real-time developer notifications

Background work and sync

Uploads, downloads and data sync that carry on reliably without draining the battery.

Tech used: WorkManager, Room

Backend and accounts

The APIs, database and admin tools your app talks to, built by the same team so the two fit together.

Tech used: Python and Django, PostgreSQL

Google Play release

Store listing, data safety form, testing tracks and staged roll-outs, so problems are caught before everyone gets an update.

Tech used: Google Play Console, internal and closed testing

Getting it right

What a good Android app needs.

Android runs on thousands of different devices. These are the things we plan for from the first design.

Works on many devices

Tested on different screen sizes, Android versions and makers, not just one flagship phone.

Feels like Android

Back navigation, sharing and notifications behave the way Android users expect.

Accessible to everyone

TalkBack labels, scalable text and good contrast, checked before release.

Google Play ready

Built to Google Play’s policies from the start, with a data safety form that matches what the app collects.

Kept up to date

Updated for new Android versions and Google Play requirements, so the app stays listed and working.

Proof

Built by the team behind Ohm.

Ohm, our own video player, runs on Android phones and tablets as well as Android TV, Google TV and Fire TV, with one account and one backend. We build it, release it and support it ourselves, so your Android app gets the same care and the same lessons.

Ohm

A premium IPTV player for the playlists you already have. Ohm plays your own sources; it never supplies channels.

  1. 01

    Discover

Goals, users, features and budget agreed in a fixed-price proposal.
  2. 02

    Design

Every screen drawn and tested as a clickable prototype before any code.
  3. 03

    Build

The app and its backend, shared with you through a Google Play testing track as we go.
  4. 04

    Google Play release

Listing, data safety form, review answers and a staged roll-out.

FAQ

How much does an Android app cost?

It depends on the number of screens, whether people sign in and pay, what the backend needs to do and how much design work is involved. After a short discovery call we send a fixed-price proposal with the scope written out, so you know the cost before work starts.

Do you build native Android apps?

Yes. We build native Android apps in Kotlin with Jetpack Compose. If you also need an iPhone app, we build that natively in Swift, and both share one backend and one account system.

Which Android devices will my app support?

We agree a minimum Android version and the devices to test on at the start, based on who your users are. The app is then tested across a range of screen sizes and makers before release.

Do you handle Google Play submission?

Yes. We prepare the listing, screenshots and data safety form, run testing tracks, submit the app and fix anything Google raises. The app is published under your own Google Play developer account.

Can the same team build my Android TV app?

Yes. We build Android TV, Google TV and Fire TV apps too, and share code and the backend with your phone app where that makes sense.

Can you update an existing Android app?

Yes. We start with a code review to understand the app and its risks, then agree a plan to fix, update or extend it, and look after it from there.

Do I own the code and designs?

Yes. Once the project is paid in full, you own the code, designs and everything we built for you. We hand over the repositories, store accounts and documentation.

Planning an Android app?

Tell us what the app should do and who it is for. We will reply with questions and a fixed-price proposal.
